Portrait Class

Take the mystery out of portraiture! If you can draw or paint then you already possess the ability to create portraits. Uncover your hidden talent through learning techniques that will make portraiture fun and easy. First day will focus on pencil drawing, remainder of sessions open to all mediums. Beginners to advanced. First session materials: 2B or assorted drawing pencils, rubber kneaded eraser, drawing or copy paper. Remaining sessions: materials and medium of student's choice such as pastel, acrylic, oils, etc. Teen-Adult

Progressive Colored Pencil
Instructor: Kathe Suddendorf
Prerequisite: Prior beginning colored pencil course.
Students will be referencing a book entitled "Painting Light with Colored Pencil". Purchase of the book is optional (book options will be discussed during first class.) Students will work one class project to develop skills. Supply list provided upon registration.

Beginning Colored Pencil
Instructor: Kathe Suddendorf
A true beginner's class. Students will learn about the color wheel, techniques, burnishing, and mixing colors. Colored pencil is a great way to begin to learn to paint without the mess of water and solvents. Many lessons in this class are transferable to other mediums. If you already paint but find that you like to paint very "tightly" and use a lot of "detailing", you may find that this medium is perfect for you. Students will complete a final project. All supplies are provided.

Caricature for Fun and Profit

Take the 'angst' out of portraiture and have a blast with caricature. Caricature is NOT about taking a person's worst feature and making it pronounced. This class is all about learning to focus on how the features of the face relate, deciding on what relationships to change, and how to change them. Beginner to advanced.Teen-Adult

Introduction to the Art of Japanese Calligraphy
Instructor: Uyen Tonnule
Explore the ancient yet abstract art of writing calligraphy. Students will learn the basic
technique of writing, experiment with styles by using Japanese brush and sumi ink on rice
paper. Students will be exposed to the design and creative aspects of Japanese calligraphy.
This is not a language class so do not worry if you do not know the language.

Basic Drawing

Class is designed for students with little or no drawing background who want to learn the
basic fundamentals. Students will learn to use basic terminology and begin to learn skills
involved in building a drawing. Materials needed newsprint pad, charcoal and kneaded
eraser.

Advanced Drawing

This class is for students with some drawing experience and advanced students.
Class will be enhanced by peer critiques to help students learn and develop skills from one
another. Students should produce one to two complete drawings in medium of choice. Basic
materials needed 18x24 sketch pad, pencils, charcoal and kneaded eraser.

Creative Techniques in Drawing

The class will focus on developing ideas and techniques for "pushing the limits" in a relaxed
and fun environment. Students will learn that drawing can be defined in many different ways
with many different materials. Instructor will choose a new project each week. Beginner to
advanced students welcome. Materials needed paper, pencils & kneaded eraser.
